To enable embedded microprocessors to access SecureDigital and MultiMediaCard flash
memory cards via a SPI port, this small circuit
board provides the MMC and SD card connector and 5V-to-3.3V level translation
circuitry as well as a low-drop-out 3.3 Volt regulator to supply the
operating voltage for the SD-card from a 5V-powered mcu board.
For additional versatility, a real time clock chip and a holder for a 3
V Lithium battery is installed on the reverse side, to provide a
permanent calendar when the mcu is powered down.
Communication with the SD card consists of four lines: Two additional pins can be used for detecting card insertion and
the position of the write-protect switch, and two leds can give user feedback under MCU control. Communication with the DS1340 clock chip is accomplished via an
I2C protocol using only two lines:
For 3.3 Volt processors, a simplified version dispenses with the level translation and the voltage regulator. www.sandisk.com/Oem/Manuals/ cached copy of Version 2.2 SD card manual www.cs.ucr.edu/~amitra/sdcard/Additional/sdcard_appnote_foust.pdf Getting started: |
